Could Gina Carano Be “Playing” The UFC With Talk Of MMA Return?

Gina Carano might be taking a page from the book of Brock Lesnar.

Carano recently appeared on “The Arsenio Hall Show” and let the proverbial cat out of the bag by saying she is thinking about a return to MMA.

It’s not surprising that Carano would say such a thing, as her name has been floating around the backwoods of social media since Joe Rogan first made mention of a possible “huge” female fight being put together by the UFC involving Ronda Rousey.

UFC president Dana White continued to fuel the fire by confirming that the promotion does indeed hold Carano’s fighting future in their hands thanks to purchasing her contract in the sale of Strikeforce to Zuffa.

While there is a strong possibility that Carano will meet with White as she stated in the coming days, is she really going to make a return to a sport she abandoned five years ago this August?

Imagine that for a second. Five years away from competing. Sure, as she said, training remains a staple in her life, but there is a big difference between training and actually “training” for a real MMA fight.

But, if Carano is just using all of this talk and hype to help promote her upcoming movies, well, she might be in luck.

Remember just a few shorts months ago when everybody – media, fans and the know-it-alls – felt confident that Lesnar was planning a return to the UFC?

Lesnar, from those with knowledge of the situation, used the UFC as leverage to improve his contract with the WWE, a pro wrestling company. He’s now locked in there, and likely done with MMA for the rest of his life.

Carano has locked up roles in several major-motion pictures, including some that are set to being filming in the coming months. But, by just mentioning the prospects of a “MMA return,” she has bought herself extra publicity free of charge.

Maybe I’m off base and Carano, as she said, really does miss competing and the thrill of the fight.

But do we all remember what happened back on the fateful 2009 night in August when Cris “Cyborg” Justino punished her? Leaving the “face of women’s MMA” on the canvas?

Is there really any hope for her, all these years later, against an athlete the caliber of Rousey?
