UFC middleweight fighter, Constantinos Philippou, has had a strong start to his career in the Octagon, winning his last five fights with two KO’s.  Now, the New York-based fighter has his eyes set on UFC veteran, Vitor Belfort.

As reported by, Philippou (12-2) has called out the Brazilian in an attempt to get that fight scheduled.

“Belfort sounds good to me,” Costas said; however, he was quick to add, “NOT in Brazil.”

Vitor “the Phenom” Belfort (23-10) has looked, well, phenomenal in his last two fights, scoring highlight-reel knockouts over both Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold.  He has, however, received a lot of negative scrutiny over his use of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.

Not that his use of TRT has caused Belfort to fight outside of the US for a couple years; but since opening up about TRT, Belfort has fought (and won decisively) three times in Brazil.  Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, has recently stated that, due to Belfort’s history of a failed test for steroids in 2006, he will have difficulty acquiring and exemption for using testosterone in Nevada.

Despite any controversy, Belfort certainly finds himself at the top of the UFC’s middleweight division.  Phillippou is currently ranked number 7 in the middleweight division, according to the UFC.  While Belfort will undoubtedly be looking for a title shot, at least until Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman rematch in December it seems that Belfort may need to try and continue stringing together impressive wins.  And in Costas Philippou, he has a game and willing opponent- as long as it’s not in Brazil.
