UFC featherweight Chad Mendes lost a tough fight to, now, interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

At UFC 189 Mendes took on McGregor on two weeks notice after Jose Aldo pulled out with a rib injury. Mendes went into the fight and looked good early, taking McGregor down and keeping him down while he landed good ground and pound.

In the second round he did the same but in the final moments of the round he went for a choke, lost position and the fight went back to the feet. From there McGregor picked him apart and landed a big punch that put Mendes down.

The referee then stepped in right away and stopped the fight. Mendes told MMAFighting recently that the fight still bugs him and it’ hard for him to watch it.

“It’s something I still think about. It hurts to watch.”

“Sometimes [I] lay in bed still thinking about it. It’s definitely going to take some time to get over it, but you know, that’s just part of the game.”
