Rising Irish MMA star, Conor McGregor, injured his knee when he fought Max Holloway to a unanimous decision victory at UFC Fight Night 26 last weekend in Boston.
After the fight, McGregor (14-2) showed up to the press conference with bandages on his knee. He said he was unsure of the extent of his injuries, though he did know when he injury took place.
“I injured my knee halfway through the second,” McGregor said. “I just can’t get it out of my head, but looking back, I should have just pulled my knee from my leg and hit him with it.
“I heard a big pop, and I let out a scream mid-round, but I passed into side control with it. When we stood back up, I was unsteady on it.”
During Tuesday night’s episode of “UFC Tonight,” it was reported that UFC doctors had diagnosed the injury as a sprain to the lateral collateral ligament. McGregor is hopeful that he can avoid surgery, but he will reportedly get an MRI in Los Angeles later this week to be certain.
McGregor told “UFC Tonight” that he hopes to fight at UFC 168 on December 28, and his coach would like to see Conor fight Diego Brandao.
McGregor kept alive a ten-fight win streak by defeating Holloway Saturday night. The fight marked McGregor’s first professional fight to go the distance, as he holds 12 wins by KO/TKO and one by submission.Tags: Conor McGregor, max holloway, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, UFC Fight Night 26, ufc news, ufc tonight
