Just a few minutes ago, twitter burst alive with the news that Tyron Woodley would be named as the next opponent for Carlos Condit for UFC 171. The official UFC twitter account posted up side-by-side pictures of the two fighters, thanking Woodley’s “multiple texts” as the reason for the decision Tuesday evening.
The UFC 171 event that is scheduled to air on March 15th has not been entirely planned out at this stage, only showing two proposed events so far. As of right now Condit vs. Woodley will seem to come in as the co main event to one of the most anticipated events of the new year: the Vacant
Welterweight Title Fight between number one contender Johny Hendricks and number 3 contender Robbie Lawler.
Woodley’s response to the news showed his obvious excitement for the upcoming fight as he tweeted , “[Cried] tears of joy when I read this. BUT GOD!”
Carlos Condit, who last saw action at UFC Fight Night 27 against Martin Kampmann with an impressive TKO victory, is currently working his way back up from a two fight losing streak against Georges St. Pierre and main event fighter, Johny Hendricks back at UFC 158.
Woodley is coming from a more recent bout at UFC 167 with Josh Koscheck, giving Woodley the victory with a brutal knockout in the first round.
This Pay-Per-View match up is set to take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, with the main card beginning at 10pmEST/7PM.Tags: Carlos Condit, johny hendricks, robbie lawler, Tyron woodley, ufc 171, ufc news
