While many have been speculating on former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar’s return to MMA and the UFC, it seems that another candidate has emerged to potentially make the transition from professional wrestling to mixed martial arts.

CM Punk has reportedly left World Wrestling Entertainment last week after he felt the company insulted him by leaving him out of a recent stint of WWE’s Monday Night Raw, (full details here).

Just last week, CM Punk did an interview with MMA Fighting where he discussed, among other things, the possibility of his moving to a career in MMA.  And it certainly is possible that UFC President Dana White could use Punk’s notoriety to sell fights.  The trick worked well before when Brock Lesnar joined the UFC, and CM Punk was open to either taking an immediate fight or joining an upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Though he lacks the collegiate wrestling experience that Lesnar had, CM Punk has been training Brazilian jiu jitsu for years under Rener Gracie.
