Brazilian news outlet SporTV Globo first reported news of the match up on Friday (May 31, 2013); However, UFC officials have not yet officially confirmed the bout although the fight is more than likely going to go down…that is if both competitors can stay healthy as Ferreira has had to pull out of his last two scheduled bouts due to injury.
Ferreira (5-2) defeated Sergio Moraes at UFC 147 in July 2012 to win the inaugural TUF: Brazil title, but has not competed since then due to the injuries. Ferreira, 28, was scheduled to face C.B. Dollaway at UFC on FX 7 and then Rafael Natal at UFC on FX 8 but was forced to withdraw from both fights. “Mutante” will look to finally stay healthy and showcase his skills consistently in the UFC. That road will start with the dangerous Clint Hester.
Hester (8-3), on the other hand, couldn’t wait to get back into action following his TUF 17 Finale victory over Bristol Marunde. Hester had a tough run on season 17 of TUF but didn’t let it get him down and has come back looking stronger than ever after his KO of Marunde.
It is still unknown where the bout between Ferreira and Hester will take place on the UFC 163 card but keep an eye out for more details regarding this scrap.
UFC 163 goes down from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Aug. 3rd, 2013. The main event of the evening will feature the featherweight champion Jose Aldo taking on former lightweight title contender Anthony Pettis. Pettis will look to rain on Aldo’s parade as “Scarface” looks to successfully defend his UFC title for the fifth time.
