Clean! Belfort passes NSAC-administered random drug test for UFC 184 title fight

Vitor Belfort

UFC middleweight number one contender Vitor Belfort (24-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) was surprised with a drug test earlier this month, as the Nevada State Athletic Commission sent collectors to his gym in Florida to obtain both blood and urine samples.

The results of that random drug test came back yesterday and returned negative for performing-enhancing drugs.

The news was first reported by ESPN.com.

Belfort is also expected to undergo random testing by the CSAC (California State Athletic Commission), which has vowed to verify that “The Phenom” will fight clean ahead of his UFC 184 middleweight title fight with current champ Chris Weidman.

The news likely comes as a surprise to both Chris Weidman and perennial contender Luke Rockhold, as both men had previously shared their doubts that Belfort would pass the NSAC’s random test.

We will see who gets the last laugh when Belfort and Weidman square off in the main event of UFC 184, which takes place February 28 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center.
