Chris Weidman on Silva Rematch: ‘It’s Going To Be Easier’

It took less than two rounds for Chris Weidman to knock out perennial pound-for-pound champion, Anderson Silva, to claim the UFC middleweight belt at UFC 162.  With the rematch set for UFC 168, Weidman believes this second fight will be even easier.

Chris Weidman defied the odds by dethroning Anderson Silva and claiming the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 162.  If his confidence was high going into that fight, it is even higher as he prepares for their New Year’s Eve rematch at UFC 168.

The main event of UFC 162 was brief, to say the least.  It took Weidman less that two rounds to knock Silva out while the Brazilian former-champ stood with his hands down what had become his typical fashion.

Weidman spoke to recently about Silva’s propensity for taunting, saying that he doesn’t expect anything different in the rematch.

He wouldn’t be so good just putting his hands up and looking like a typical Thai boxer.  You know what the guy is going to do more if he’s doing that.  He likes to come from different angles [with] his hands down.  Trust me, he’s not coming in like you think he’s going to be coming in.

People say that he’s going to get pissed off, and it’s going to be this whole new Anderson Silva- it’s going to be easier.  I’m very happy with the situation, and it’s exactly where I thought I was going to be, and it’s time to prove myself again on the 28 [of December], so I’m excited.

UFC 168 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The card will fill the UFC’s regular New Year’s Eve card, bringing in a huge card co-headlined by the women’s bantamweight championship fight between Miesha Tate and defending champion, Ronda Rousey.
