Champ Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira To Headline February’s UFC 170

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones has his next title defense set. And while we all pretty much knew that Jones would be facing Glover Teixeria, we now also know where and when they will do battle.

UFC officials today announced that Jones vs. Teixeira will headline UFC 170, which takes place Feb. 22 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The fight between Jones and Teixeira was originally rumored for the UFC 169 card during Super Bowl weekend, but the reigning light heavyweight champion wanted to take a little more time off between fights.

Jones is currently riding a 10-fight win streak; an unprecedented string of wins in a weight division that, prior to Jones taking the belt from “Shogun” Rua in 2011, had played a game of hot potato with its championship belt. And it’s a streak with wins over the who’s who of MMA – Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua – ending with a “Fight of the Year” candidate and instant classic with Alexander Gustafsson.

That last fight with “The Mauler” was so good, in fact, UFC President Dana White hinted that a rematch seemed the most likely scenario, but ultimately backed off that decision in favor of perhaps setting up an even more in-demand match-up later in the young guns’ careers.

Meanwhile, number one contender Glover Teixeira boasts a 20-fight win streak of his own, downing Ryan Bader, James Te Huna, “Rampage” Jackson, Fabio Maldonado and Kyle Kingsbury in his five UFC appearances to date. Glover is a well-rounded destroyer, earning 13 knockouts and 6 submission wins, solidifying himself as a threat on his feet… or off.

What do you think, Penn nation? Do you see yet another win for “Bones”? Or does Glover have what it takes to topple the light heavyweight kingpin?
