Chael Sonnen returns to action against Josh Barnett at Metamoris!

By BJPENN.COM News - September 14, 2015

When fans think of the premier fight promotions of the world, names like the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator MMA come spring to mind. In the grappling world, however, the choices are slim for professional jiu-jitsu players. Lucky for fans of the sport, that is changing now that Metamoris events and Eddie Bravo Invitational tournaments are becoming increasingly popular.

Stars like Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Joe Lauzon have helped Metamoris grow, but it looks like the main-event that could bring MMA fans into the sport is about to take place! Chael Sonnen recently confirmed on Submission Radio that he will be challenging Josh Barnett at an upcoming Metamoris event.

“I’ll even give you gentlemen a prediction: Sonnen wins. I’m going to take his fat ass down and he will never get up,” Sonnen said. “And let him know I said that. I’m going to take Josh down and then I’m going to whisper in his ear, ‘welcome to the next 20 minutes of your life’.”

It is not clear as to whether or not it will be for Barnett’s championship, but it is expected to be for the title. Both fighters are coming off impressive performances at Metamoris 6. Sonnen impressed and avoided getting submitted by Renato Sobral long enough to make it to the twenty minute time-limit while Barnett submitted Ryron Gracie with a toehold.

Barnett’s training is currently focused on taking down Roy Nelson at the upcoming UFC event in Japan at the Saitama Super Arena on September 27, 2015. The date for the next Metamoris event has yet to been announced, but make sure you come back to BJPENN.COM for updates on the details surrounding the match as they are released!
