On Tuesday night’s episode of UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani reported that sources say the UFC is looking to match featherweight fighters Chad Mendes and Clay Guida against one another at UFC 164.
The UFC has not officially announced the fight, and sources say that it is not 100% finalized.
Chad “Money” Mendes (14-1) and Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (30-13) were originally slated to fight at UFC on FOX 7, but Guida pulled out of the bout with an injury. Mendes went on to defeat Darren Elkins at UFC on FOX 7, his third consecutive 1st-round KO since losing to current 145-lb champ, Jose Aldo. Mendes’ streak now has him set to face a man who has never been knocked out in Guida.
“The Carpenter” is coming off his first win in his last three fights, a controversial split decision over Hatsu Hioki. The win was Guida’s first fight at 145 lbs. Prior to dropping from lightweight, Guida lost two straight to Benson Henderson and Gray Maynard. He has been criticized in his last couple fights for lack of performance, so Guida will be looking for to have exciting fight against Mendes.
UFC 164 is set to take place August 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.Tags: benson henderson, Chad Mendes, Clay Guida, Gray Maynard, Hatsu Hioki, Jose Aldo, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, UFC 164, ufc news
