Catchweight, Featherweight, Lightweight – Pettis Says He’ll Fight Aldo Anywhere

It seems as though one of the most difficult parts of putting together a super fight is getting the fighters to agree on a fight weight, and the intriguing match-up between Featherweight champ Jose Aldo and Lightweight champ Anthony Pettis has proven to be no different. While Aldo’s coach Andre Pederneiras wants the fight at a catchweight, UFC president Dana White and Pettis’s manager both want the fight at 155 lbs.

When asked if the fight would only would happen at 155,  Pettis claimed that, while he preferred to defend his recently acquired belt, he would be willing to fight Aldo at any weight. In a recent interview with Inside MMA, Pettis stated: “I feel like I’m the best in the world at 155, anyone around or near my weight class, anybody that’s questionable, I want to prove that I’m the best…I just got my belt, I think that it’s right that I defend my belt, and he’s defended his belt a lot of times already, but it’s up to the UFC, whatever they decide: catch-weight, 155, 145, I’m always game.”

Pettis (17-2, 4-1 UFC), captured the belt at UFC 164, where he tapped Benson Henderson with a slick arm-bar. While there are a number of interesting fights at 155 for the Milwaukee resident,  no one fighter stands out as the clear number one contender. Meanwhile, Aldo (24-1, 6-0 UFC), has cleaned out the Featherweight division, most recently winning a dominant decision over Ricardo Lamas at UFC 169. While a date for the potential match-up has not been announced yet, it would have to be after Pettis is fully recovered from a knee injury.
