In what has become a welterweight card for the ages, Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit and Tyron Woodley has been placed in the co-main event of UFC 171.
Headlining the event will be a welterweight title fight between Johny “Big Rigg” Hendricks and Robbie Lawler.
This card will undoubtedly shake up the welterweight division’s rankings, as six of the top welterweights on the planet will compete for the lucrative top spot. Since Georges St. Pierre relinquished his title and decided to walk away from the sport, the 170 pound division is now wide open, with Hendricks and Lawler being the first competing for the now up-for-grabs gold.
Another top ranked match taking place at UFC 171 will be a welterweight match between former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard and former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields.
Assuredly, UFC 171 will tell a lot about how the UFC welterweight division will play out over the next year, and with three fights featuring some of the best 170 pounders in the world, it will not only show a new welterweight champion, but a possibly the next number one contender for the title.
UFC 171 takes place March 15 in Dallas, Texas.
