April 20th marks the date that the UFC is coming to San Jose, California to showcase some of the promotion’s best talent and what better way to please the California fans than to continuing adding California-grown fighters to the card?
News just broke that the UFC has added two bouts to the UFC on FOX 7 card and three of the four fighters are Cali boys.
Sacramento’s Joseph Benavidez (17-3) will go to war with San Francisco’s Darren Uyenoyama (8-3) in a battle between NorCal flyweights. Both fighters will be coming into the fight in an attempt to please their home-state fans and continue their winning ways. Uyenoyama, a former Strikeforce fighter now with two wins inside the UFC, will enter the bout riding a three-fight winning streak. Benavidez will come in riding high after a spectacular performance put in against Ian McCall last month following his title-fight lose to Mighty Mouse in December. Both fighters are vying for a shot at the UFC Flyweight Title and a win in April in San Jose will likely move either fighter extremely close to that opportunity.
The UFC has also added a bantamweight scrap between Orange County’s Francisco Rivera (9-2, 1 NC) and TUF Brasil undefeated standout, Hugo Viana (7-0). Both men are coming off of knock-out victories and are looking to move themselves closer to a shot at the bantamweight title.
UFC on FOX 7 is scheduled to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on April 20th and will be headlined by the lightweight unification title fight between UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez.
With the addition of the two fights mentioned above this card is shaping up to be a promising fan pleaser.
