Cain Velasquez predicts that Junior dos Santos will beat Mark Hunt

Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is looking to defend his belt against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on May 25 at UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2. If Velasquez (11-1) defends his belt against Silva (18-4), he would possibly face the winner between Junior dos Santos (15-2) versus Mark Hunt (9-7). They’re also slated to fight at UFC 160 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Last month, UFC President Dana White announced at the UFC 159 post-fight press conference that dos Santos would be the No. 1 contender for a title shot if he beats Hunt at UFC 160. Dos Santos lost the UFC heavyweight belt to Velasquez last December.

Velasquez recently did an interview with MMA Fighting and he thinks that both fighters have heavy hands.

“Both Junior and Mark have heavy hands, have good stand up,” he said to MMA Fighting. “[Hunt winning] could happen. Either one could win in this fight just because of both scenarios, both guys having good hands and being good on their feet. If he beats Junior, or Junior beats him, both of those guys deserve the shot at the title.”

In the end, Velasquez predicts that dos Santos will win the fight against Hunt.

“He’s more well-rounded,” Velasquez told MMA Fighting. “I don’t know, I just think he’s more skilled in the stand up a little bit.”

If the fight goes in dos Santos’ favor, he will get a shot of the winner of the main-event fight between Velasquez and Silva. Dos Santos faced Velasquez twice in the UFC. Dos Santos knocked Velasquez out in November 2011 at UFC on FOX 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos in the first round and was named the UFC heavyweight champion. He lost his belt last December at UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2 by unanimous decision, which was his first loss in the UFC.

Velasquez faced Silva last May via technical knockout in the first round at UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir. Since then, Silva won his last two fights. He last defeated Alistair Overeem via knockout in the third round in February at UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar.

A rubber match is not guaranteed with dos Santos and Velasquez. If Silva defeats Velasquez for the belt, then Santos and Silva can possibly go head-to-head if both fighters win that night.
