| Brian Bowles was defeated by knock-out two weeks ago by George Roop at UFC 160. Following that loss, which was his second in a row, Bowles apparently failed his post-fight drug test horribly.
According to an email sent to MMAmania.com from Keith Kizer, who is the Executive Director of the NSAC, Bowles failed the drug test for an over 20-to-1 testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio. The NSAC has an official limit of 6-to-1 T/E levels and Bowles was immediately flagged for failing that test with his levels far exceeding that limit. Kizer also noted that all 24 fighters on that card were tested and Bowles was the only one that came back with a dirty result.
MMAMania.com also reported that Kizer noted in his email that, “a complaint is forthcoming,” which means Bowles have a chance to appeal the test results or he will be served a punishment by the commission, which usually comes in the form of a fine and/or suspension.
Bowles (10-3) was the former WEC Champion but has since faced a very rough patch in his career as he’s lost two straight fights to Roop and Urijah Faber, he hasn’t not won a fight since July of 2011, and he has been plagued with injuries since making his way into the UFC that year (2011). The failed drug test just comes as a compounded extension of his recent misfortunes and we’ll have to wait to see how the NSAC deals with this situation to determine where Bowles goes from here.
