With less than one month to his 10th appearance inside the UFC’s Octagon, Paulo Thiago has been forced to prepare for a different opponent. Lance Benoist, his original foe, has withdrawn from the bout with an undisclosed injury, being replaced by newcomer Michel “Trator” dos Prazeres at UFC on FX 8, as first reported by Sportv.com.
Prazeres will make his debut in the MMA’s biggest stage with a perfect record of 16 wins and no losses. The jiu-jitsu specialist, fighting out of the brazilian state of Pará, has eight victories via submission and seven by the way of decision. He will come from an almost full year layoff, since his last performance happened on June 2nd of 2012 at Shooto Brazil 30, when he went the distance with Leandro Silva.
Thiago, on the other hand, will try to get back into his winning ways that once made him a welterweight title contender, with the pressure of possibly being released in case of another setback. The 32-year-old Brazilian has lost four of his last five bouts, including a two-fight losing streak by the hands of Siyar Bahadurzada and Dong Hyun Kim. His last win was a unanimous decision victory over David Mitchell at UFC 134 in 2011.
“UFC on FX 8″ will go down on May 18th at Jaraguá d0 Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil, headlined by a middleweight collision between Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold.Tags: Lance Benoist, Luke Rockhold, MICHEL DOS PRAZERES, mma, MMA NEWS, Paulo Thiago, ufc, ufc news, UFC on FX 8, Vitor Belfort
