Bellator Reaches All-Time Best 1.1 Million Viewers for Bellator 106

In what started as its inaugural Pay-Per-View event, Bellator 106 seemed doomed when the card’s main event dispersed and the promotion was forced to make a number of last-minute changes to the card including several fight changes and switching to regular live broadcast.  Despite it all, the card headlined by Michael Chandler vs. Eddie Alvarez (shown above) generated the promotion’s highest number of viewers, 1.1 million overall.

It was a fiasco, to put it nicely.  Bellator’s first pay-per-view fell apart when main card fighter, Tito Ortiz, pulled out just one week before his bout against Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.  Following that announcement, several other bouts were removed from the card and Bellator was forced to drop its pay-per-view broadcast for a cable broadcast on its home network of Spike TV.

Yet, despite all that, Bellator 106 was the promotion’s most-watched event to date.

The telecast delivered 1.1 million viewers (9:00 pm-12:45 am), the most-watched in Bellator event history and the most watched mixed martial arts show on television this fall.  The ‘Chandler-Alvarez II’ fight card peaked at 1.4 million viewers at 11:17 pm and reached its high mark with Men 18-49 with a 1.1 rating for the Alvarez-Chandler bout.  The telecast also ranked #2 in cable in its timeslot with Men 18-49.”

Spike TV intends to replay the Chandler-Alvarez fight Friday night (November 8), as that bout was cut short in some areas due to the card exceeding its time slot last when it aired live.

As for the bouts removed from the original card, they will all be made up in upcoming Bellator cards.  The most notable of these bouts, however, will not.  The original headliner between two former UFC light heavyweight champions, Tito Ortiz and Rampage Jackson, will be put off indefinitely depending on Ortiz’ condition following a fractured neck.  Jackson will be facing former UFC light heavyweight fighter Joey Beltran later in November.
