Bellator Rating Hit All Time Low On MTV2 Last Weekend

It should come as no surprise that last weekend’s Bellator 50 events ratings where a little on the low side.

According to reports only 114,000 people tuned in to MTV2 to view the opening round of the Bellator middleweight tournament. The number marks the lowest rating since the promotional debut on MTV2 16 events ago.

Despite an amazing night of fights that included the likes of Bryan Baker, Brian Rogers, Vitor Vianna and last season’s tournament winner Alexander Shlemenko, the show did not live up to expectations from a business stand-point.

It was however a busy weekend for combat sports fans. Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz squared off on the same evening as did Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger for free on Spike TV. The poor drawing power of last weekend’s event should not discourage the promotion, the network or Bellator fans as the low rating had to be expected up against the aforementioned events on the same evening.
