Bellator Boss Bjorn Rebney say’s they don’t plan on “force-feeding” PPV’s on viewers every month!

On Monday Bjorn Rebney talked to the media at the Bellator: Rampage vs. Ortiz media conference and talked about why he is now doing the very first Bellator PPV. He said after signing Rampage he instantly knew he wanted to sign Tito Ortiz and match them up for the first every Bellator PPV. Now that everything has worked out Rebney say’s this isn’t going to be a monthly thing.

Rebney not only see’s the Rampage vs. Ortiz match-up as good for the company, it’s also something he has wanted to see as a fan of MMA for quite some time.

“We targeted him specifically with a ‘Rampage’ pay-per-view in mind. I just took off the CEO hat and put on the fan hat. Of the epic battles that I wanted to see that I never got a chance to see, what was No. 1 on my list? And ‘Rampage’-Tito was No. 1 on my list – a great fight that I never got to see.”

It seems as if Bellator still plans on keeping the focus on Spike TV and free fights for the fans. They have had over 100 live events that take place weekly during two full seasons a year. For season 8 of the Bellator tournament the company transitioned to a cable deal on Spike TV.

Season 9 premieres next month and its 12-event run will feature 11 live events on Spike, plus the PPV that Rebney say’s will also feature title fights.

But according to Rebney this is not going to be a monthly thing for now where they “force-feed” PPV’s to their viewers.

“You can’t force-feed pay-per-views down peoples’ throats month-in and month-out,” Rebney said. “We’re a free TV mechanism. Our partnership and our alliance is with Spike, and when incredible opportunities come up for us … we’ll probably jump back into the pay-per-view arena.” Rebney stated.

“But it’s not going to be one of those things where every single month, do or die, we keep putting it out where we don’t necessarily have, or someone else doesn’t necessarily have, the fighters to fuel it the way a premium purchase should be fueled.”

This is a step in the right direction for growing the company and it’s obvious that Bellator plans on competing and growing and most importantly putting on the best fights possible for their fans.
