Barnett vs. JDS Was The Plan According To UFC Boss | UFC NEWS

If Josh Barnett (32-6) signed with the UFC, he would have fought the former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

“Josh Barnett is a fly by the seat of his pants kind of guy, he does his own thing, beats to his own (expletive) drum. Josh Barnett’s never been a guy to say I don’t want to fight this guy or I won’t fight that guy. He’s not that type of person,” UFC President Dana White said at the UFC on Fuel 7 post-fight conference on Feb. 16.

White said that the potential fight had no influence on Barnett’s choice to sign with the organization after White confirmed that the fight was in the works.

Leland LeBarre, Barnett’s manager, didn’t elaborate on the issues that made Barnett decline the offer last week. He did say that money wasn’t an issue for Barnett.

Dos Santos is set to fight Alistair Overeem at UFC 160 on May 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Barnett defeated Nandor Guelmino in his last fight at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine in January. He won via arm-triangle choke at 2 minutes and 11 seconds in the first round.
