bisping v rockhold

Recently the UFC held their first event in Australia, UFC Fight Night: Rockhold vs. Bisping, that saw Luke Rockhold capture a 2nd round submission win over Michael Bisping. The event was a success, and saw drew a live gate of $1.05 million according to the UFC at the post-fight press conference.

The UFC has been unable to hold regular events in Australia due to the fact that Victoria, Australia has a ban on MMA events occurring in a cage, preventing the UFC from holding events there in the Octagon.

This past weekend Daniel Andrews of the Labor Party was elected as the premier of Victoria, and has promised to revoke the ban on MMA events occurring in a cage, opening the doors for a potential event at Melbourne’s 50,000 seat Etihad Stadium.
