Assuncao Loses UFC 170 Opponent, Wants Title Shot Instead

By BJPENN.COM News - February 3, 2014

American Top Teams, Raphael Assuncao, has just lost his opponent for this month’s UFC 170 event.

Fresh off a win over T.J. Dillashaw, the number 5 ranked bantamweight fighter thinks it’s his turn to fight for the UFC strap.

He gave his thoughts to MMAFighting.com earlier today:

“I want my shot against Barao. I’m the only undefeated bantamweight that hasn’t fought for the title yet. I’m the No. 3 in the division. I’ll ask the boss for this fight.

“Dominick (Cruz) is hurt. Urijah (Faber), Eddie Wineland and Michael McDonald already fought Barao, and I can do a different fight with him.”

Assuncao was scheduled to face off with Francisco Rivera, but a broken hand has forced Rivera out of the bout.

UFC 170 is set to go down on February 22, from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
