It was announced today that heavyweights, Mark Hunt and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, have verbally agreed to fight in the main event of a to-be-announced UFC Fight Night that will take place this December in Australia.
UFC officials have not confirmed the bout, but sources close to BJPENN.COM have confirmed the booking.
Hunt and Silva both fought on the same card last, UFC 160, where both fighters lost to their adversaries via KO. Hunt, a native of New Zealand, lost in the third round of a highly competitive fight with Junior Dos Santos. Prior to that fight, Hunt had earned four-straight victories in what had been one of the more inspiring UFC stories to date. Though the loss to Dos Santos derailed Hunt’s title run, a decisive win for Silva could put him right on track again.
The Brazilian Silva faced Cain Velasquez in the two fighters’ rematch, this time for Velasquez’s heavyweight belt. Following his first loss to Velasquez, Silva overcame the odds to knock out both Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem. The latter fight earned him the rematch with Velasquez. Unfortunately for Silva, their second fight ended with a first round TKO. He too can look to regain momentum in the heavyweight division with an emphatic victory over his opponent in December.Tags: antonio "bigfoot" silva, Antonio Silva, bigfoot silva, Cain Velasquez, JDS, Junior Dos Santos, Mark Hunt, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, ufc australia, ufc fight night, ufc news
