We are pleased to announce as part of our continued evolution in covering the sport of Mixed Martial Arts around that world that BJPenn.com will now be bringing you all the latest news on Canada’s top MMA promotion – Maximum Fighting Championships.
Canada’s undisputed leader in mixed martial arts, proudly announced it is partnering with the nation’s No. 1 sports network.
The MFC/HDNet broadcast relationship began in February of 2008 and is expected to continue under the announced deal through the year 2016. Since its debut on HDNet, MFC has produced the first live television broadcast of MMA in the Province of Ontario and crowned six MFC world champions in three different weight classes.
“There isn’t a bigger name in Canadian sports broadcasting than TSN, and having the Maximum Fighting Championship on TSN2 is a tremendously important step in our future plans,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich.
“The Maximum Fighting Championship is thrilled to continue its terrific partnership with HDNet and to be working alongside such an amazingly talented cast and crew,” said Pavelich. “Working with Michael Schiavello, and Ron Kruck has been amazing. I have seen such growth on both sides of this partnership and it’s amazing to think about where we can go over the course of another five years.
Pavelich formally announced the deal last week on HDNet’s “Inside MMA.” The partnership retains the MFC’s status as the only Canadian-based promotion with a live television package for its fans.
“Mark Pavelich has been HDNet’s most solid and prolific promoter – giving us great match-ups with every event,” said Mark Cuban, Chairman and CEO of HDNet. “Mark sets high goals for the promotion and makes them happen. We are excited to be part of the growth story that is the MFC.”
Beginning with MFC 31: The Rundown, the MFC will be airing on TSN2 as part of a new, one-year content agreement. This is a prestigious development for the Maximum Fighting Championship as it joins TSN2’s stellar broadcast lineup that includes the National Hockey League, National Football League, NASCAR, Major League Soccer and curling.
MFC fight cards will air on TSN2 within 30 days of the original event date.
Submission specialist, Jacen Flynn, signed on to compete. He is looking to make an immediate impact in the organization’s middleweight division and brings a potent mix of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expertise and raw aggression to the MFC ring.
Hailing fromTwin Falls,Idaho, Flynn is known for coming at his opponents quickly and aggressively. He recently submitted Edwin “Babyface” Dewees in 44 seconds. His live-by-the-sword-die-by-the-sword mentality has seen all but one of his fights end in a submission.
At 33, Flynn is looking for an immediate challenge in his new MMA home: “I want to fight tough guys, and I know a lot of guys say that, but I truly want those tough fights. I want to challenge myself.” Although his first opponent is yet to be announced, the MFC’s middleweight division has a number of fighters ready to give Flynn the challenge he’s looking for. The undefeated Brendan Kornberger is coming off a first round TKO and looks hungry, and the potential for a jiu jitsu showdown between Jacen Flynn and Thales Leites is very intriguing.
No matter who ends up in the cage with Flynn, they are in for a fight. Flynn brings a highly intelligent game that’s seen him capture 9 of his 10 wins by submission. “I really sit down and break down technique, and I want to apply as much as I possibly can, making moves efficient,” explained the Idaho black belt.
Flynn holds notable wins over Dean Lister and Dennis Kang.Tags: featured, MMA NEWS, Strikeforce, strikeforce news, ufc news, UFC on FOX, UFC on FOX 2, ufc on fox 3, UFC on Fuel, UFC on FX
