Anderson Silva files defamation claim against disrespectful Twitter fan

By Chris Taylor - January 28, 2014

If you are thinking of sending any ill-worded messages towards a fighter via social media for whatever reason, you better cross former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva off of your hit list.

Apparently “The Spider” is a little more than sensitive in regards to being disrespected by fans, especially if it’s on twitter. As the MMA legend has apparently filed a police report against a Brazilian woman who tweeted some less than favorable comments regarding the former champ (via a report from MMAFIGHTING.com)

According to the chief of police in Pinhais, Marcelo Magalhaes, the UFC star felt offended when a woman called him “rotten” on Twitter.

“We’re still investigating to get her name, address and phone,” Magalhaes told Globo. “It’s a 40-year-old woman who wrote on the internet, in a social media, several phrases, including ‘Brazil will see the idol and rotten that you are’.”

In an interview with a local radio station, Magalhaes said that the woman also called Silva a “Shitty Idol.”

The process is expected to go to court next. The penalty for this type of crime in Brazil is up to six months in jail, or a fine.

I’m not going to say anything about Anderson’s actions myself, as I don’t want to be receiving any phone calls from Brazilian police. But, I will say that I personally find this to be rather ridiculous. What do you think Penn Nation, is Anderson possibly overreacting just a little?
