UFC heavyweight and former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem is set to go under the knife today to repair a pinched nerve in his elbow.

Overeem had this to say to MMAFighting.com:

“Initially, I didn’t realize what it was and thought it would pass. I thought [my injured] rib was worse, which it isn’t. So after 19 years of abuse to my body, I’m proud to now only have my first surgery.”

Overeem is coming off a decision win over Frank Mir on February 1st at UFC 169.

No word on a timetable for Overeem’s return. Stay tuned for more information.
