Fans have decided that Alexander Gustafsson will be joining UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones on the cover of the EA Sports UFC video game.
Over 11,000,000 fan votes were cast during the past four weeks in a bracket system that ultimately saw Gustafsson paired against Georges St-Pierre in the final vote to decide who would join Jones on the cover.
Preceding the UFC on FOX 9 weigh-ins, UFC President Dana White alongside broadcaster Mike Goldberg and Jon Jones himself, the UFC announced that Gustafsson had won. They showed a video from Gustafsson, who was in Sweden unable to attend the event in Sacramento.
Perhaps a fitting decision, Alexander Gustafsson last fought Jon Jones at UFC 165 where the Swedish challenger lost a unanimous decision, but gave Jones the toughest fight of his career. The video game cover will highlight what was one of the best fights of 2013.
Following the announcement, Jones expressed his excitement for the decision, saying that it would certainly help build a potential rematch with Gustafsson down the road. Before such a rematch takes place, however, both men have tough fights ahead of them. Jon Jones will defend his belt against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172, and Gustafsson will face Jimi Manuwa in March at a UFC event in London, England.Tags: Alexander Gustafsson, EA Sports, EA Sports UFC, EA Sports UFC Video Game, Glover Teixeira, jimi manuwa, jon jones, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, UFC 165, ufc 172, ufc news
