UFC 142: Aldo v Mendes

After a main event for the ages last night between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes, that saw both fighters rocked multiple times, and on the verge of being TKO’d at several points throughout the fight, many fans were left wanting to see the two warriors go at it again for a third time.

Featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo, and Chad Mendes aren’t opposed to this. The pair spoke during the post-fight press conference about the possibility of a rubber match in the future.

Aldo spoke to MMAJunkie about a trilogy fight.

“I saw Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard fight three times. They were great fights. In this fight, of course, I’m still the champion. But Chad Mendes was also victorious in this fight, and the third fight, we’re going to win again together.”

“It definitely can happen. He’s a great athlete. He’s always going to be fighting in this weight class, right on top.

“It’s not (like) because he lost tonight … he’s no good anymore. He’s very good. He’s got great potential, and in the future, we could meet again, and I hope that we have another great fight.”

Mendes agreed with Aldo, and stated:

“I just love doing this. This is my job. I’ve been doing this now for a little over six years. I’ve wrestled my entire life, so competing is what I love to do. It’s who I am.

“Whether it’s for a title shot, or it’s the next fight to get me to a shot, I’m just going to keep training hard. I’m going to keep doing what I love to do and just enjoy the ride. I’m loving every second of this.”
