Alan Belcher is unfortunately been unable to compete in MMA, but that hasn’t stopped his competitive drive. As first reported by MMAfighting, Belcher will compete in a Heavyweight Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Brazil in Febuary. His inability to fight comes from two eye surgeries following a vicious eye-poke suffered in a bout with Michael Bisping in April of 2013.
“Alan Belcher can’t fight MMA not because of his eye injury, but he was cleared to fight jiu-jitsu,” Jeferson Mayca told MMAFighting.com. “We talked a lot over the last couple months and came up with the idea of having him in the heavyweight tournament.”
Belcher, a BJJ black belt, joins some stiff competition in the Copa Podio tournament, including world champions Rodolfo Vieira, Leandro Lo and Leonardo Nogueira. The tournament is a round-robin format, with the two winners of each of two five-man brackets competing in a 4-man single-elimination tournament. Copa Podio takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 1st.Tags: Alan Belcher, Copa Podio, Michael Bisping, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, ufc news
