After much speculation on where he would land and in which weight class, Roger Gracie is now expected to return to action under his promotional home of Strikeforce as a middleweight.
Set to welcome the grappling sensation to the new division is long-time MMA standout Keith Jardine.
While not officially announced by Strikeforce officials, many sources are reporting this fight is a go.
The date and location for the competition is unknown at this time, but if it gets signed it is likely going to be set for a yet to be announced Strikeforce event in July.
Roger Gracie last saw action losing his first professional contest to former Strikeforce champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal last September. He toyed with the idea of moving to the UFC, joined the likes of Team Black House and embarked on his way to the middleweight division. The UFC rumors didn’t pan out, but the Gracie family member will return to Strikeforce and look to get back on the winning track in his middleweight debut.
Jardine has had a career full of highlights that would make any aspiring fighter proud to hold, however in his fall from grace (and the rankings) the former UFC light-heavyweight took to Strikeforce after a brief stint on the regional circuit to try and get things back on track. In his debut with the promotion he fell short in a bout against Gegard Mousasi. After a point deduction was handed out to Gegard, the two fought to a draw. He then went on to face Luke Rockhold for the Strikeforce middleweight title but lost.
Now two fights into his Strikeforce contract Jardine will take on Gracie to try and secure his first win under the promotional banner.
