Anthony Pettis is the new UFC lightweight champion of the world.

Pettis got Benson Henderson to verbally submit with 29 seconds left in the first round in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis 2 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis

The win improved Pettis to 17-2 while Henderson fell to 19-3.

“I felt his arm pop and I heard him say, ‘tap, tap, tap,’’ Pettis said.

The fight started off perfect for Henderson, who closed the distance and worked two takedown attempts. Henderson continued to work from the clinch before Pettis finally created some space.

And once Pettis created that space, he landed four, heavy leg kicks to the body that rocked Henderson.

Pettis tried another flashy kick that missed and Henderson ended up in his guard. From there, Pettis worked the arm bar and got the finish.

In the postfight interview, Pettis had a message.

“Jose Aldo, we have some unfinished business. My belt, your belt,” Pettis said.

Henderson was going for a record of title defenses in the division. Henderson is tied with B.J. Penn and Frankie Edgar for the most consecutive defenses of the UFC lightweight title with three.

“I’ll be back, no question,” Henderson said. “Anthony is a tough dude. He got my arm and did good job twisting and turning it in the right direction. My arm is killing me.”
