In his return to the UFC cage, Barnett TKO’d Frank Mir in the first round with a heavy knee at UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis 2 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, Milwaukee, Wis
Mir protested the stoppage, which came at 1:56 in the first round.
In a bout that pitted two of the best heavyweight submissions specialist of all-time, the entire fight stayed on its feet.
Barnett pushed the pace from the onset and engaged in the clinch. Barnett landed some big knees in the clinch and both fighters landed some effective, short shots.
Barnett pushed Mir against the cage before landing another solid knee and started to pour it on.
“I didn’t want to stop. Me and Frank are the kind of guys who would rather die than quit,” Barnett said. “That’s the way it goes. We can comeback after the main event or in the parking lot. Boos cheers, I’ll take them all. I’m glad to be back.”
