Jake Ellenberger offended – Johny Hendricks asked for less dangerous fight | UFC NEWS

Jake Ellenberger felt offended when his previous opponent, Johny Hendricks, asked UFC President Dana White to fight Carlos Condit instead.

“I’m offended that Johny Hendricks called Dana to ask him to fight Condit. I’m going to choose my words carefully here, but I think that he wanted a less dangerous fight in my opinion,” Ellenberger told Bleacher Report this past Wednesday. “We’re going to fight because I know I can beat him, and I have him figured out. It offends me that he did that.”

Ellenberger (28-6) and Hendricks (14-1) were supposed to meet in the octagon at UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz on March 16 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. But when Rory MacDonald got injured, Hendricks asked to fill in his spot to fight Condit (28-6) at UFC 158. Because of the Hendricks and Condit match-up, Ellenberger is slated to face Nate Marquardt (32-11-2) who is the former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion and a UFC veteran at UFC 158.

Although Ellenberger and Hendricks are not going to fight each other next month, he knows that he’ll face Hendricks in the future.

“I know how the game works and I know how he’s trying to position the way people are looking at the scenario. He didn’t want to fight me and that’s a fact,” Ellenberger told Bleacher Report. “So however he wants to word it, Carlos is a great fighter, one of the best in the division, I don’t disagree there, but I would still say and he would probably say the same thing that it’s a less dangerous fight. Is Carlos going to knock him out? I don’t think so.”

There is no secret that Hendricks is looking for a shot at the welterweight belt in the UFC. He is looking for the next best thing after Nick Diaz was chosen to face Georges St-Pierre for belt instead of him. Hendricks thought that Condit was the next best thing, because he was the former interim welterweight champ in the UFC and lost to the champion last November.

“Nothing against Jake Ellenberger, but Carlos Condit just came off a title fight,” Hendricks told Bleacher Report. “This is his first fight back after holding the title for nine months. He was the interim champion and is coming off a fight with Georges St-Pierre. That fight is still fresh in people’s minds and if I can put on a good performance against Condit, that should show everybody I’m ready for that title shot.”
