History was made tonight at UFC 157, when Ronda Rousey submitted Liz Carmouche in the first round, the same way she has done many times before, in the first round via armbar.

When the first round started it didn’t take long for the two bantamweight women to go after each other. Carmouche took Rousey’s back standing and had a deep neck crank in. Rousey was able to shake Carmouche off and get the fight to the ground. From there Ronda Rousey took over and had side control, landed a bunch of punches and then got mount. Rousey then did what she has done so many times, went for and succeeded in the armbar submission.

You could feel it when Rousey walked out, she was focused, the crowd was on their feet, and it felt like a moment in history you’ll never forget. This was a huge step for women in MMA and also women sports in general. It was a great fight from start to finish and I cannot wait to see the women step in the octagon again.
