Bryan Caraway will now face Johnny Bedford (19-9-1) this Saturday. The bantamweights will go head-to-head at UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Caraway (17-6) accepted this fight on a short notice. He stepped in to replace the injured Erik Perez who was originally slated to face Bedford.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the changes yesterday.
Due to a leg infection, Perez (13-4) was forced out of the event. Perez is on an 8-fight-win streak and is undefeated in the UFC. He won all three of his UFC fights in the first round.
Caraway, who has less than a week to prepare for the fight, is coming off of a split decision loss at UFC on FUEL TV 8: Silva vs. Stann on March 3 to Takeya Mizugaki. Caraway won his three fights before that.
Bedford is on a 3-fight-win streak and is also undefeated in the UFC. He last defeated Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale last December via knockout in the second round. His other win in the UFC was in 2011 at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale when he defeated Louis Gaudinot via technical knockout in the third round.
Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones versus Chael Sonnen will headline UFC 159, which will air live on pay-per-view. Caraway versus Bedford will air live on FX in the preliminary card.
