Cub Swanson is coming off an impressive victory over Ross Pearson at UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida which moved him to (17–5) overall and (2-1) UFC. However on June 7, 2009 Swanson faced Jose Aldo in a WEC Featherweight Title Eliminator. The bout just eight seconds in to the first round was over when Aldo landed a devastating flying knee knocking Swanson out.
Since then Swanson has gone (4-2) in his last six and is currently on a two fight win streak and his coach Greg Jackson feels if Swanson continues to grow and improve he can eventually contend with Aldo in a much more competitive manner. Jacksons comments come via an interview with Sherdog.
“As he continues to evolve and as he continues to grow and add more tools to his arsenal, certainly we’re in it to try to get to be the world champion. I certainly hope we get another shot at [Aldo] when he’s ready. We’ll see. If he keeps winning and doing spectacularly, like his last two fights have been against very good opponents, I’m sure he’ll earn that right. We’ll just make sure we have all the tools and we’re ready when it’s that time.”
