Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Alistair Overeem (43-15 MMA) will return to the octagon in the co-main event of this weekend’s UFC 218 pay-per-view fight card where he will square off with fellow knockout artist Francis Ngannou.

The former Dream and Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Overeem, has won two straight fights and six of his past seven overall.

“The Reem” most recently scored a majority decision win over former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum at July’s UFC 213 event in Las Vegas.

Four of Overeem’s past six wins have come via knockout over opponents Mark Hunt, Andrei Arlovski, Junior dos Santos and Stefan Struve respectively.

Meanwhile, Francis Ngannou (10-1 MMA) is currently riding a nine fight win streak, his latest being a first-round TKO victory over Andrei Arlovski this past January in Denver, Colorado.

“The Predator” was expected to fight former division champion Junior dos Santos at September’s UFC 215 event in Edmonton. However, that fight was eventually scrapped by the promotion after “JDS” was flagged by USADA for a potential anti-doping violation.

Francis Ngannou has gone a perfect 5-0 inside the UFC octagon, scoring stoppage victories in all five of those contests.

UFC 218 takes place Saturday December 2 in Detroit, Michigan.

The pay-per-view event is headlined by a featherweight title fight featuring current champion Max Holloway rematching former division kingpin Jose Aldo.
