By Russell Ess - May 17, 2017

Jose Aldo Max Holloway

UFC 212 takes place on Saturday, June 3, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The main event of the evening will feature a featherweight title unification bout between undisputed champion Jose Aldo and interim champion Max Holloway.

Jose Aldo Max Holloway

Jose Aldo last fought Frankie Edgar in a featherweight interim title fight at UFC 200 in July of last year. Aldo was able to outpoint Edgar and took a unanimous decision win over the former UFC lightweight champion for their second time meeting in the Octagon at 145 pounds. Prior to the fight against Edgar, Aldo lost for the first time in over 10 years as current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor took just 13 seconds to KO Aldo snatch the featherweight title. After McGregor won the UFC lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, “The Notorious” relinquished the featherweight title and Aldo who held the interim title was named the undisputed champion of the division once again.

Max Holloway has proved himself in the Octagon time after time, winning 10 UFC featherweight fights in a row. “Blessed” won his biggest fight to date in his last performance, being the first man to stop former UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis and picking up the UFC featherweight interim belt at the same time. Like Aldo, Holloway’s last loss came at the hands of Conor McGregor as “The Notorious” won a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 26, which took place back in 2013.

Claudia Gadelha vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 212

In the co-main event of the evening, #1 UFC ranked women’s strawweight Claudia Gadelha will take on #2 ranked Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The two former title challengers will look to give the UFC and the fans a reason for them to challenge for the UFC women’s strawweight title once again. Both Gadelha and Kowalkiewicz came short in their title fights against current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, both losing unanimous decisions. This will be Kowalkiewicz first fight since competing for the title while Gadelha has fought once, picking up a win over Cortney Casey at UFC Fight Night 100 in November.
