UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was ready to take on the world prior to his fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 196. Talks of a superfight between McGregor and welterweight champion Robbie Lawler were brewing until Nate Diaz handed “The Notorious” his first loss in the UFC.

Lawler recently spoke with WSB-TV ahead of UFC 201 where he will defend his belt against Tyron Woodley and the subject came up about fighting McGregor (at 13:25 of the video).

“I wasn’t too worried about it,” Lawler said. “Obviously, that was a big fight. He’s a big draw, but it wouldn’t have been good for him.”

“How so?” WSB-TV asked.

“’Because if I hurt him, I wasn’t taking his neck,” Lawler said.

“What were you going to take?” WSB-TV asked.

“His soul,” Lawler said. “I’m a lot different than most people. He found a way out and (Nate) Diaz took his neck and was nice to him.”
