Frankie Edgar has been campaigning for a featherweight title shot from the time he knocked out Chad Mendes at the TUF 22 finale back in December. Following the win, UFC President Dana White stated that there was no denying Edgar any longer, and that he would get whatever he wanted in regards to a title shot.
The following night in Las Vegas, Conor McGregor knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds to capture the UFC featherweight championship. Following the win, rather than immediately defending his belt, McGregor booked a lightweight title fight against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196, which ultimately became a welterweight fight with Nate Diaz.
As many know by now, Diaz submitted McGregor in the 2nd round of their main event scrap. Following the bout, McGregor revealed that he plans on returning to featherweight to defend his championship, however there’s been no word yet on who he will defend the belt against.
While many expect McGregor to have a rematch with Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar has been campaigning hard for a fight with McGregor.
