With a career spanning three combat sports and over 80 victories, Tyrone Spong is expanding his presence into the boxing world, and made that presence felt with a blistering one-punch knockout over a regional journeyman on Sunday night.

Spong made his name as a world-class kickboxer before making his foray into mixed martial arts back in 2012. Now 6-0 as a professional boxer, Spong’s most recent victory came by way of knockout against Hugo Leon at a boxing event in Mexico.

The Dutch-Surinamese combat veteran unleashed a brutal but short right hand that caught Leon right on the chin as he was coming in. Spong’s right hand left his opponent face-planted on the canvas in the third round of their four round affair.

Spong hasn’t fought a kickboxing match since breaking his leg against Ghokan Saki in 2014, and hasn’t fought in MMA since 2013, where he fought twice under the WSOF banner.

Do you think Spong should continue pursuing boxing? Or should he return to MMA, where he went 2-0 before leaving the sport for other combat endeavors? Sound off, PENN Nation!
