VIDEO | Brutal arm break occurs in Judo match at Rio Olympics

By Chris Taylor - August 7, 2016

Brazilian Sarah Menezes suffered a brutal arm injury in the quarter finals of women’s judo (48kg) during Day 1 of the Olympic Games in Rio.

Menezes was grappling with Mongolia’s Urantsetseg Monkhbat, when she was tossed to the ground. Once on the mat, Monkhbat locked up Menezes right arm and began working an armbar submission. Monkhbat hyper-extended Menezes’ arm to the point it appeared to snap. Menezes would tapout but not until the damage had already been done.

Menezes, who was the defending gold medalist, left the arena while clutching her arm and being applauded by all the fans in attendance.
