UFC 198 Results: Ronaldo Souza defeats Vitor Belfort via TKO

A key middleweight bout between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (23-4 MMA) and former UFC champion Vitor Belfort (25-12 MMA) served as the co-main event of tonight’s UFC 198 fight card in Curitiba, Brazil.

Round one begins and Souza presses forward with a kick to the body of Belfort. Vitor with a flying knee attempt that misses. Souza shoots in for a takedown but Vitor was waiting for it. The fighters engage in the clinch. Vitor escapes the position and breaks free. “Jacare” with a leg kick. Vitor with another flying knee attempt. “Jacare” shoots in for a takedown and this time he gets it. He moves to half guard on Belfort. Big right hands from Souza. Vitor is busted up from the strikes. The referee comes in and stops the action so the doctor can check Belfort’s cut. After a brief break in the action we resume with Souza still in top position. Vitor scrambles and gets back to his feet. Souza pushes Vitor against the fence and begins landing some shots. He drops down for another takedown and gets it. Vitor more less pulled guard there. Souza with some big right hands from the top. Vitor is in all kinds of trouble. “Jacare” is in full mount. He’s blasting off on Belfort with strikes. The referee is taking a good look and calls the fight.
