UFC 222 Results: Mackenzie Dern defeats Ashley Yoder

A women’s strawweight fight between Mackenzie Dern and Ashley Yoder served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC 222 prelims in Las Vegas.

Round one begins and Dern lands a pair of low kicks early. She charges forward with a flurry of punches and then pushes Yoder up against the fence. Dern with a nice knee. Yoder gets her back off the fence momentarily but Dern quickly pushes her back in the position. Another good knee from Dern. Yoder is able to break free from the clinch. She lands a nice inside leg kick and then one to the body. Dern replies with a right hand and then charges in with another flurry. Mackenzie with an elbow and then a knee from the clinch. Yoder breaks free and lands a push kick. Ashley with a nice left hand. Dern closes the distance and scores with a right hand over the top. Mackenzie presses Yoder up against the cage and scores a takedown. Ashley pops right back up to her feet and breaks free from Dern’s clinch. Mackenzie lands a right hand over the top. Ashley replies with a kick followed by a left hand. The horn sounds to end round one.

Round two begins and Ashley steps forward with a combination. Dern responds with a nice kick to the body. Ashley catches Mackenzie with a nice left hand. She lands another. Dern responds with a right hand over the top. She presses Ashley up against the cage. Yoder switches the position and begins to work in some knees. The referee steps in and breaks the ladies up. Yoder with a low kick. She lands a big left hand that floors Dern. Mackenzie pops right back up to her feet. She seems to be ok. Under two minutes remain. Dern misses with a right hand over the top. She lands a nice low kick. Yoder with another solid left hand. Dern circles and then lands a low kick. She follows that up with a right hand that causes a cut over Yoder’s eye. Round two comes to an end.

Round three begins and Dern misses with a right hand over the top. Yoder is pawing with her left hand trying to keep Mackenzie at bay. Dern leaps in with a right hand and then drops down for a takedown. Yoder is doing an excellent job of defending. Dern with an elbow. Yoder replies with a big left hand. The ladies clinch against he cage. Dern with a nice knee to the body. She drops down for a single leg. Yoder is not having that and shrugs her off. Yoder with a left high kick that is blocked. Dern lands a left hook. Two minutes remain. Dern lands a nice inside low kick. She goes to the body with a jab. Dern shoots in and scores a takedown. She takes the back of Yoder almost instantly. Big shots now from Dern. She looks to lock in a rear-naked choke. Yoder is doing a good job of defending. Dern adjusts but cannot secure the finish. The horn sounds to end round three.
