Check out October’s current UFC 216 fight card lineup

By Chris Taylor - August 20, 2017

The octagon will return to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 7 for UFC 216.

Kevin Lee Tony Ferguson

At this time, the UFC 216 pay-per-view fight card does not have a confirmed event headliner.

With that said, the October 7 fight card already has one title fight set.

Top UFC lightweight contenders Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will square off for the promotions interim 155-pound title at the event.

Kevin Lee is currently riding a five-fight win streak, his latest being a first-round submission victory over Michael Chiesa this past June in Oklahoma City.

Meanwhile, Tony Ferguson has won nine fights in a row, his latest being a unanimous decision victory over former division title holder Rafael dos Anjos.

UFC 216 will also feature a key heavyweight contest between former division champion Fabricio Werdum and perennial contender Derrick Lewis.

Werdum is coming off a decision loss to Alistair Overeem which occurred at last month’s UFC 213 event. Prior to that, the Brazilian defeated Travis Browne via decision.

As for “The Black Beast”, Derrick Lewis is coming off of a TKO loss to knockout artist Mark Hunt. That setback snapped a six fight winning streak for Lewis, which included wins over Travis Browne and Roy Nelson.

Also slated for the UFC 216 fight card is a women’s flyweight fight between Jessica Eye and fan favorite Paige VanZant.
VanZant will enter this fight having recently been choked out by the ever-dangerous “Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson. Prior to this loss, VanZant picked up a 2016 knockout of the year contender, snuffing Bec Rawlings with a jumping switch kick. This win, meanwhile, was preceded by a bloody submission loss to top contender Rose Namajunas.

Eye, meanwhile, is neck deep in a four-fight losing streak at bantamweight. This streak has seen her give up decisions to Miesha Tate, Julianna Pena, Sara McMann, and most recently, Bethe Correia.  This flyweight fight with VanZant, then, is likely a make or break fight for her. Luckily, Eye has long felt that she is best suited for the flyweight division, rather than the bantamweight division, where she is undersized.
