Last November, in the co-main event of the landmark UFC 205, Tyron Woodley sought to make his first defense of the UFC welterweight title against streaking karate specialist Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Five, razor close rounds later, the fight was ruled a majority draw. With this result, Woodley hung on to the UFC welterweight crown, though surely not in the fashion he’d hoped.
Given their draw, talk immediately turned to a tie-breaking rematch between Woodley and Thompson. While UFC president Dana White assured this is what would be next for both men from the get-go, however, Woodley was outwardly disinterested in a do-over, instead campaigning for fights with big name opponents like welterweight star Nick Diaz, lightweight champ Conor McGregor, and middleweight champ Michael Bisping.
Ultimately, however, the UFC was able to put this rematch together. Thompson and Woodley are scheduled for a rematch in the main event of a stacked UFC 209 on March 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In advance of this anticipated card, Woodley and Thompson made an appearance on SportsCenter to promote their fight. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long before the two welterweights were getting heated, arguing with one another about whether an immediate rematch was justified.

Tyron Woodley entered his UFC 205 title defense having won the title with a first-round knockout of Robbie Lawler in July. He earned his title shot with a crushing knockout of Dong Hyun Kim and a close decision defeat of Kelvin Gastelum.
Stephen Thompson, meanwhile, earned his crack at Woodley with a fantastic, seven-fight win-streak. This streak was highlighted by dominant defeats of Robert Whittaker, Patrick Cote, Jake Ellenberger, Johny Hendricks and Rory MacDonald.
