Cole Shelton - August 26, 2022

Stephen Thompson has made it known he wants to fight a striker next. Thompson was linked to a fight with Shavkat Rakhmonov but told BJPENN.com on Thursday that he was not interested in that fight. ‘Wonderboy’ says he wants to fight a striker, so with that, he hopes he can face Michel Pereira his next time out.

Chris Weidman has made it known he will make the walk to the Octagon again. At UFC 261, Weidman broke his leg in a gruesome fashion as just 17 seconds into the fight, he threw a leg kick that Uriah Hall blocked and his leg snapped in half. It was a major injury that resulted in multiple surgeries but Weidman is back in the gym and getting closer to a return.

Stephen Thompson believes Leon Edwards landed the perfect technique to KO Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. Edwards entered the fifth round clearly losing the fight and did not get off to the best start in the final frame. It appeared that Usman would be defending his belt by decision but Edwards landed a clean head kick that KO’d Usman in the final minute which Thompson says was a great technique.

Stephen Thompson isn’t interested in fighting Shavkat Rakhmonov next. Thompson hasn’t fought since last December when he lost by decision to Belal Muhammad. It was his second straight defeat, and in both losses, he was out grappled and outwrestled.

Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson has a suggestion for the UFC after Shavkat Rakhmonov called him out following his latest win over Neil Magny last weekend. The ‘Kazakh’ won via submission in the second round to take his undefeated streak to 16-0. Shavkat Rakhmonov makes it 16-0 with 16 finishes and now he registered his first top 10 win over Neil Magny who has wins over likes of condit, gastelum, Lawler, Johnny Hendricks, Neal, Griffin etc. And shavkat made it look easy against such a guy. Thompson, (16-6 MMA) has a disappointing record of losing his last two fights in a row, to Belal Muhammad (21-3 MMA) and Gilbert Burns (20-5 MMA) respectively. Currently positioned at #7 in the UFC welterweight rankings, he’s got the reputation of being one of the most accomplished strikers and well as one of the most respected fighters in the sport.

UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson has given his thoughts on Colby Covington’s UFC 272 victory over Jorge Masvidal. In the main event of the pay-per-view in Las Vegas earlier this month, Colby Covington managed to get the better of Jorge Masvidal with a dominant unanimous decision win. The triumph brought an end to their years-long rivalry and established, at least for now, that “Chaos” is the better fighter of the two.

Stephen Thompson is hoping to run things back with Jorge Masvidal next time out. Both Thompson and Masvidal are on two and three-fight losing streaks, respectively. In those fights, ‘Wonderboy’ was outwrestled by Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad, while Masvidal lost twice to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and was then outwrestled by Colby Covington his last time out. With that, Thompson is hoping the Masvidal rematch happens as he wants to face a striker next time out.

Stephen Thompson has no plans of retiring anytime soon. Thompson suffered a lopsided decision loss to Belal Muhammad at UFC Vegas 45 on December 18. He entered the fight as the betting favorite but Thompson was taken down seven times and controlled on the ground for nearly 12 minutes. The loss was his second in a row, as back in July he suffered a decision loss to Gilbert Burns in a fight where “Wonderboy” once again fell victim to the grappling of his opponent.
