Report: Former Bellator fighter shot in the head

Horrific news has hit the MMA community as a former Bellator MMA fighter is reportedly in emergency care in Dagestan after being shot five times, with one shot to the head.

Bloody Elbow’s Karim Zidan tweeted on Wednesday that Shahbulat Shamhalaev was shot on Tuesday in Dagestan.

Zidan tweeted the following:

“Being told Shahbulat Shamhalaev was shot five times in Dagestan yesterday. One bullet in the head. In emergency care now. Details to come.”

“Shamhalaev went into surgery around 4pm (Moscow time). Report is that one kidney has been removed & that he is in stable condition.”

“Shamhalaev was attacked in a local restaurant in Makhachkala. Went to make peace following altercation previous day. Got shot for his effort”

Shamhalaev won Bellator’s season seven featherweight tournament. Shamhalaev started hot in Bellator with three wins in a row but was released from the promotion after two consecutive losses. Shamhalaev’s last fight was at Bellator 120 in 2014.
